APILAB specialises in the installation of beehives in companies. APILAB's objective is to support companies and local authorities in implementing simple, effective and unifying actions around biodiversity. In the case of the installation of beehives in companies, these actions aim to act for the preservation of bees, whose role is vital for humans and the ecosystem. APILAB offers companies the opportunity to assess the impact of human activities on the environment, all thanks to bees. It is a question of bio-monitoring by bees, which is carried out in particular at the level of the air, water and soil thanks to numerous sensors installed in the connected hives. APILAB has created the APIDIAG® method, which provides scientific indicators that can be easily integrated into your company's hive installation process.

You have installed beehives around your company as part of a CSR approach and you want to communicate on this? The beehive is an excellent tool for raising employee awareness of biodiversity and also for uniting teams. The company can capitalise on their presence to organise training or introductions, and take advantage of the opening of the hives with the honey harvest. You can also feed your internal communication through the broadcasting of videos, the sharing of analysis results and news about bee biomonitoring.
Gather your teams for a convivial moment of discovery with multiple animations around the bees with the opening of the hive, during the harvest period or even during company events (open house, anniversary...). You can also distribute jars of honey to employees and customers with a personalised label.
Communicate internally and unite your teams around the project of installing beehives in your company to raise their awareness of biodiversity and bees with the help of video montages, documents summarising the results, in particular thanks to the connected beehives or even workshops with a beekeeper.
Offer a digital experience to your teams to follow the news on the project thanks to a dedicated web page: share the installation of the hives within the company, the photos during sampling, harvesting or workshops with the beekeeper, explain the company's commitment to the environment, and offer online initiations to beekeeping. We offer video montages of the project to reinforce your internal communication.
Take advantage of this project of installing beehives in your company to propose to your teams to get more involved in the protection of the environment and pollinators by setting up initiations to beekeeping, workshops during the harvesting of honey and even conferences on beekeeping biomonitoring, the standards of biomonitoring by the bee, and measures to preserve the environment thanks to the results of the study.

What are the questions to ask yourself before installing beehives in your company?

1What are the questions to ask yourself before installing beehives in your company ?
2Who should I contact to install beehives in my company?
The installation and management of an apiary requires know-how that only the beekeeper can master. In addition, they must comply with regulatory obligations such as hive declarations, breeding registers, etc. Our network allows us to integrate a local beekeeper into your project, located near the company. In this way, you help to preserve a local business and preserve this know-how in your region.
3Is the environment favourable for setting up hives?
Before the hives are put in place, our beekeepers carry out a tour of both the site and the surrounding area. The bees will forage up to 3 kilometres away, so we have to make sure that they will find enough food in the area.
4How to choose the location of the hives?
The location affects the development of the bees, so the hive should face south or east and be sheltered from the wind. Attention must also be paid to distances to prevent the bees' flight path from crossing a thoroughfare. The choice of location is made at the start of the project.
5When and how to collect honey from the hives?
Beekeepers determine whether the honey is ripe during hive inspections, and if so, it is the ideal time to harvest it. Only beekeepers are allowed and qualified to harvest honey. This is an opportunity to invite several employees to see the extraction process.
6What commitment should the company have to the project?
By installing beehives in your company, you contribute to the preservation of bees and the reproduction of plants in the surrounding area. Despite the urban area, these bees will be able to gather pollen from flowers and trees within a radius of 3 km of their hive. It is also a support to local, artisanal and sustainable beekeeping. It is also a way of preserving a real know-how passed down from generation to generation. The planned activities will serve to raise awareness of the world of bees and the importance of preserving the environment. The scientific analyses carried out during the project will also enable the implementation of appropriate actions to help the environment.
7What can be measured with bee biomonitoring?
Every year science progresses and improves its knowledge of our environment. This is why new innovations in biomonitoring are emerging, particularly in beekeeping biomonitoring. Today, it is possible to monitor the health of the environment over several years simply by installing beehives in companies. Here is what we can measure thanks to bees: air emissions (PAH particles and heavy metals), insecticides/pesticides present (or not) in the environment (to prove organic farming for example), the floral diversity of a site (precise mapping of the floral species present in the surroundings), the state of stress of the environment and the food sufficiency for biodiversity.
8What can be done with the bee analyses?
The analyses carried out will enable the implementation of suitable actions to help the environment and to monitor their effectiveness over time: - Selection of suitable flowers and trees - Flowering and afforestation of the site - Fallowing of pre-selected areas - Insect hotels, ...
